There are many things that may affect the quality of your water, and a product to deal with each. Here is a list of some:
Softening
Many
municipalities and towns in the Toronto area use ground water, which is
usually high in dissolved limestone, or hardness. The two principal
effects are scaling and soap curd.
Scaling is the white film that builds up on sinks, tiles, countertops, shower doors, et cetera.
Soap
curd is the grey, insoluble compound that forms bathtub ring, and turns
clothing stiff and grey. The harder the water, the worse the problem.
Soap curd tends to aggravate skin problems such as eczema and creates
dry, chapped, itchy skin, especially in the winter.
A Water Softener
from Just Water eliminates dissolved limestone, and with it the
annoyance and expense of scaling and soap curd. Just Water softeners by
Erie are state-of -the-art products, warrantied for your lifetime, with
the lowest amount of service requirements and the highest efficiency.
Compared to competitive products the price is more economical, and the
quality is unsurpassed.
Sterilisation
Since
the disaster in Walkerton, there is hightened awareness of the
potential risk to all well-water of contamination by bacteria and
viruses. Just Water supplies a full range of quality sterilisers from
Ultra-Violet to Oxidation and Chlorination Systems. Products by Erie,
Sterilight, and Structural supply the finest quality and lifetime
warranties.
Purification/Chlorine Removal
Purification
means the removal of harmful or unpleasant contaminants from the water,
and may involve a wide variety of products depending on the problem.
One of the most common problems is trace chemical contamination of
municipal water supplies. Practically all Southern Ontario ground water
and water from the Great Lakes contains small amounts of PCB's, THM's
and Dioxins, whose long-term health effects are largely unknown.
Chlorine
is used to sterilise water mains and prevent harmful bacteria from
reaching your home. Once the water does get to your home, you no longer
need chlorine. A recent Health and Welfare Canada study showed that
long-term exposure to chlorinated water can cause health problems. This
same study recommended that chlorine be removed at point of entry into
the home, if possible.
The
two most widely used purification systems in the home are Carbon
Filters and Reverse Osmosis. 'Activated carbon' is the most widely used
medium for removing trace chemicals and chlorine, and Just Water Ltd.
routinely combines this form of treatment in a combination
softener-carbon filter known as a "Purifiner", providing good-quality
drinking water at every tap in the house.
Reverse
Osmosis is a more sophisticated system involving the use of a specially
designed 'membrane' to reject contamination. This system is usually
combined with activated carbon, and is most commonly used for one
drinking water tap in the kitchen. It can also easily supply an
icemaker and cold-water dispenser in the fridge.
Iron and Sulphur Removal
Pockets
of iron and sulphur and found in the rock strata around the greater
Toronto area and may be dissolved or suspended in well water. Just
Water Ltd. supplies the most advanced filters for the removal of these
metals, which cause red, brown, or black staining, discoloured water,
or unpleasant odours. The two most common types of filters are
'Birm/Air Injection' and Greensand filters. Air injection has become
the more popular since it doesn't require the addition of oxidising
chemicals.
Colour, Taste and Turbidity
Other
problems that can affect the quality of your water, especially on
private wells involve substances that change the taste and colour of
the water. These may include suspended particles, tannins, colloidal
iron, manganese etc. Whatever the problem, Just Water has the
state-of-the-art answer. There is no charge to analyse for the most
common types of contamination. Should more unusual analysis be
required, prices will be discussed in advance. (In the event we have to
send out a sample to a private lab).
